Blog Post #1- My Final Idea

Hi my name is Briana Welch and I am a 17-year-old girl currently taking A level media studies. This year
I have chosen to do a short film. A short film is also referred to as a short subject which is a film with a short running time. With cellphones and social media many teenagers attention span is shorter than before so sitting through a film or documentary is harder. With my short film I want to make it to where it is suspenseful but there is also an even balance between sentimental.

The plot of my short film is the last five minutes of a persons life before they die. There is a superstition that when you die, your brain is active for seven minutes. It is said that in those seven minutes people play back memories of their lives. However, scientists are unaware what happens in those seven minutes, if anything even happens, that is. For the final project we were assigned five minutes whether it be a short film or documentary. I can not go over five minutes so I have decided to cut down the superstition to the last five minutes. Since the plot of my film is built around a superstition, this makes it a fiction short film. I have no idea what personally happens in those last seven minutes before death so I will be building around different theories.

Genre hybridity is being expressed throughout my film. Genre hybridity is when you bring together different types of genres into one film as a way to get a broader narrative. The genres being reflected throughout my film is fiction, drama, romance and action. By using genre hybridity this will demonstrate a wide range of different features throughout the film. This will increase the storytelling experience and apply to more audience members. The plot typically enhances and is overall more compelling.
