Blog Post #14- Sundance Film Festival

https://www.sundance.org/festivals/sundance-film-festival/about/

Part of our final project is "submitting" our short film to a film festival. To ensure I submit my film to the correct festival, I am doing research on three different festivals. The first one is Sundance Film Festival.

The Sundance film festival is when original storytellers and audience members get together to share their films. The festival shows a mix of documentary's, short films and episodic content. Throughout the festival there are opportunities for different filmmakers to talk with one another, panel discussions and many other events. The festival has been going strong since 1985 where a couple hundred of films shown have gone far reaching many audience members worldwide.

The Sundance film company offers many different opportunities to better your film. This is a non-profit organization and is just a way for film artists to share their work, gain attention and get criticism from higher up people on how to better their film. People are mentored and support up to 1000 artist a year. There is a total of 12 labs with grants that go above three million dollars. People that enter the film festival are given many opportunities to become better.

To enter the film festival, you must pay the fee then fill out the application where you later submit what you want to be shown. This film festival is one of the most famous festivals which give new and upcoming people an opportunity to make it in the film industry.

A popular film shown at the Sundance Film Festival is "The Spectacular Now". This film has similar genres to my film like romance, drama, melodrama, teen and coming-of-age. This film is about two opposite people who meet and an unexpected romance happens between the two. However, at the end there is an unexpected twist that leaves audience members shocked. When it comes to comparing this to the idea of mine, I plan to use the unexpected twist and having the two main characters be complete opposites. By watching this movie I picked up on different genre conventions that are specifically in those genres. For example the mise en scene which I plan to use in my film.
