Age gaps in media products are some of my favorite troops. Whether it is in a romantic sense or pure platonic they are still so entertaining. In my film there is a platonic age gap between my two protagonist. While it is not a big age gap it is a normal three/four year age gap. One of my actors (Chelsey) will be twenty-one for two days before my other female actor (Mia) turns eighteen. There are different examples of media that represents those age gaps.
Different Age Gap Examples:
The film "the idea of you" is a film where there is a romantic age gap relationship. The age gap between the two is twelve years. The film shows how having an age gap can effect the reality of the relationship. In the film, the way they show the age gap was by having the older protagonist have a kid. Her makeup and costuming (mise en scene) were portrayed as an older women. When doing her makeup they added in different facial techniques like wrinkles, age spots along with changing the texture of their skin. The makeup techniques used in the film I plan to carry over into mine.

Taylor Swift wrote a famous song which revolves around an age gap relationship. It highlights where the younger female in the relationship was deeply affected by the older male. The picture above is a song lyric that was taken from the song itself. In the first half of the lyric she is talking in a literal sense where she does not tell jokes but then finishes it by saying a joke. The joke means that the two people in the relationship are getting older but he continues to date girls much younger than him. This song highlights the pain of a relationship. When it comes to relating this to my film, I plan to use songs that represents age gap in a more painful sense to highlight the bad things along with good.

In the famous television series "The Office" there is an age gap between the two protagonist Micheal and Dwight. This is strictly a platonic age gap where Micheal is five years older than Dwight. These two characters are the ones I would like my characters to represent the best. Micheal and Dwight are two co-workers that became friends outside of work. Their friendship goes through all different types of things like arguments, humor, breakups and work problems. The two are portrayed as best friends and I would like to carry that over.
Age gaps are entertaining and create different storylines throughout the story. When it comes to representing the age gaps I plan to do the makeup of my older protagonist and change her costuming as a way to represent she is older. I want to include dialogue and music that shows Chelsey is older especially in the flashbacks and then when it comes to the way they bond I want their flashbacks to show a bunch of obstacles not just all good things.
