Blog Post #24- The Opening Scene

Next week, I plan to begin filming. This means I need to begin planning my opening scene. This is just a plan.

The majority of the film is meant to be the flashback not necessarily the crash itself. While the crash is a big part of the film I want to focus on the flashbacks. To do this, I plan for the crash to be about a minute long however I have not started filming yet. So that is prone to change.

Idea:

  • Open with a shot of the car driving by and cutting to the speed limit sign. Then cut to the speed limit of the car and have the sound of the two characters laughing in the back. Pan to passenger character keeping an eye on the speed limit and looking back. Cut to a wider view of both characters in the car. Have the protagonist (driver) look over at the passenger, there is a panic and the camera goes black with a scream.
For this idea I plan to use diegetic sound along with a mix of asynchronous and synchronous sound. There will be limited dialogue for the sole purpose that the focus is on sound and the sound of the accident. A big part of the scene is showing the speed limit sign and the speed of the car. This makes it known that the accident had the potential to be fatal. There will be no background soundtrack, I will strictly focus on the sounds around.
