Blog Post #26- Practicing blinking eyes

To transition from current to flashback, I plan to have my protagonist looking up at the hospital light before flatlining. Once she flatlines that is when the flashbacks will start. While I am not in the hospital to film my protagonist looking at the light, I had to get creative. These are not the clips going into my final, they were practice so I can look at what to improve on and change!

First shot shown:

To make this first practice shot, I was holding the camera and had a classmate use their sleeves. They were wearing a black hoodie which was meant to be the eyelids.
Liked:
  • Slow "blinking"
  • Blurred vision
Disliked:
  • The fabric
  • Cuffing
  • Not eye shaped
While the vision for this shot has the potential to be there, it needs a lot of work to be done in order to reach that. I would like to try this shot again. Things I would do differently is have my classmate a little farther from the camera. I would lint roll the hoodie, maybe change the lighting on the light and shape the hands a certain way.

Second Shot Shown:

For this second shot, it is done with the same hoodie. The hoodie was extremely off centered and we ran into the same problem as the first one.

Third shot shown:

For this third shot, we used two pads of paper. I am not completely against the idea and see the potential in it.
Liked:
  • Smooth surface
  • Tan back side (eyelids)
  • Easy to control
Disliked:
  • Straight edges
I see this shot working out the best. By using the two note pads we have more control. I can bend them in an oval shape as a way to create the round eyelids. It also gives the opportunity to control the speed and it will be easier to have the less amount of movement. If the pads are placed perfectly it will make the filming much smoother and easier.

Fourth Shot Shown:

For this practice shot, we tried working with our fingers. As seen in the video it did not work out so well.
The camera was blurry, it was fast paced and uneven. On top of all that, you are able to see the lines on our fingers which would not be on a persons eyelids.

For making the decision, I will continue to bounce back and forth between shot one and three.
