Blog Post #38- Choosing a movie poster
For my first instagram post, I wanted to do a movie poster advertising my film. For this I created two different posters. The gray one is number one in the survey and the original picture is number two.
At first I wanted to try out a bland background. A common color scheme in my short film is grey. So, I wanted to try out a grey background then little characters around it. On my poster, I included the release date and the line at the bottom "Coming to screens near you!". This was meant to grab the attention of the viewers and build up the suspense.
For this poster, I used a layout from Canva and an original picture not featured in the film. This had a fade at the top of the poster. I then included the title of my film, the name of my actors and the different awards my film was nominated for. The image shows the personality of my two actors and has the symbolism of the car in the background. This had more genuine characteristics in comparison to the first one.
To get non-biased results, I presented my two different posters to my English Literature class. I had everyone pick which they liked better and wrote down the tally marks to represent the votes. I received opinions on what was liked and what was not. Now I know adjustments needed to be made to make my poster better. Everyone liked number two better because it showed more of what my film would be about and it was a lot more descriptive.
